What happens to your product descriptions

When you press Create new product

We make a new product in your Shopify store with:

• our product name as the title, and our description, with links to the product documents when there are any;
• our pictures;
• our family name as the product type, our shop name as the vendor, and our tags;
• one variant with our SKU, barcode, weight, cost and your selling price;
• the stock, kept at the aiku- location.

The selling price is our RRP, changed by the Pricing Policy of your channel if you set one before adding the product. You can change the texts and pictures in Shopify afterwards. We do not overwrite them later, except in the case below.

When you match a product you already have

Matching links our product to a product that is already in your store. See Managing products on Shopify.

We do not change:

• the title, the description and the pictures;
• the SEO title, the meta description and the URL;
• your own fields and apps.

We do change the variant, because we need it to send stock and receive orders:

• We replace the product's single variant with one that has our SKU, barcode, weight and cost, and stock it at the aiku- location.
• We keep your selling price if the variant had a price above zero. If not, we use your selling price from My Products.

If you sell our products as the variants of one Shopify product, ask us in the chat on our website to turn on linking to existing variants for your channel. Then we only link the variant that carries our SKU and change nothing else on it: not the price, not the SKU, not the barcode.

What we update afterwards

After a product is connected we keep its stock up to date in Shopify, while Stock Update is on for the channel.

We do not send later changes to the title, description or pictures. If we improve a description in our catalogue, your Shopify product keeps the old text. This protects the changes you make in Shopify.

The weight and size are sent again only when you press Update all dimensions in My Products.

Careful: Edit Price replaces your title and description

When you tick products in My Products, press Edit Price (...) and then Save & Publish, we send the new price to Shopify. At the same time we also send our title and description, as they were when you added the product. Your own title and description in Shopify are replaced.

This does not happen with Save as Draft: that only saves the price with us and sends nothing to Shopify. It also does not happen for products linked to an existing variant.

If you wrote your own texts in Shopify and only want a new price, change the price in Shopify.

A safe way to start

1. Add a few products to My Products.
2. If you already sell them, match them. If not, create them.
3. Check them in Shopify: title, description, pictures, price and stock.
4. When everything looks right, do the rest.

When something goes wrong

My Shopify descriptions do not update when yours change. This is normal: we do not send description changes after a product is connected. Copy the new text into Shopify yourself.

My own title and description were replaced. This happens after Edit Price with Save & Publish. Put your text back in Shopify, and change prices in Shopify from now on.

I got a second copy of a product I already sell. It was created with Create new product instead of matched. Delete the new copy in Shopify, then use Connect with other product in My Products to link our product to your original one. Before you match, check that your product has the same SKU as our product code.
