Connecting your eBay account

6 min read

Before you start

  • Your eBay account must be a seller account with the registration finished on eBay, usually billing and identity details. You can connect without it, but eBay will not list anything until it is done.
  • Your listings go to the eBay site of the shop you use: eBay UK for AW Dropship UK, eBay Germany for AW Dropship Europe, eBay Spain for AW Dropship España.
  • Sign in on eBay in the same browser with the account you want to connect. We connect whatever eBay account that browser is signed in to. If you have several eBay accounts, sign out of the others first, or use a separate browser profile.

Step 1: Start the connection

  1. Open Channels in the menu and press Add Sales Channel.
  2. On the Ebay card press Connect. A window called eBay opens.
  3. In ebay Account Name type a name for this channel, for example your eBay user name. This is the name you see in your channel list. You can change it later.
  4. Press Next.

Step 2: Authorise us on eBay

  1. Under Authentication Settings press Auth Store. eBay opens in a new tab.
  2. Sign in to eBay if asked and approve the connection.
  3. You see a short message that your store was authenticated. The tab closes by itself after a moment. If it stays open, close it.
  4. Go back to the eBay window and press Next.

If you press Next before approving on eBay you see "You are not authenticated yet, please click auth store button". Press Auth Store and finish on eBay first.

When you approve, we make sure your eBay account has a return, postage and payment policy, and create a basic one of each if needed, so the next step always has something to choose.

Step 3: Choose your business policies

eBay uses business policies for returns, postage and payment. We load the ones in your eBay account.

  • Basic settings: App and Account are filled in for you. Turn on VAT Rates and pick a VAT category if you want the prices we show you to include VAT. This does not change the prices sent to eBay.
  • Returns: under Return Business Policy choose a Profile. Under Return Settings choose Returns Accepted or Returns Not Accepted in Return accepted. If you accept returns, also choose Return paid by (Seller or Buyer) and Return within (day) (14, 30 or 60 days), and you can write a Detailed return policy explanation.
  • Shipping: under Postage Business Policy choose a Profile. This sets the postage services, costs and handling time of your listings.
  • Payments: under Payment Business Policy choose a Profile. If your account uses eBay managed payments, choose your eBay payments profile.

The three policies and Return accepted are required. Press Next. You are taken to your new channel.

Tip: the postage policy you pick must have at least one valid postage service for the eBay site you sell on. If it does not, every upload fails. Check it in eBay under your business policies before you choose it.

If the connection is not finished

If you close the window before the end, the channel page shows "Your registration is not complete yet, you can continue here". Press Continue Registration to go back to the step where you stopped. Or press Delete next to "Or delete the channel and try again" and start again.

Messages on your channel page

  • eBay has not finished setting up your seller account: eBay refuses every listing until your seller registration is complete. Sign in to eBay, finish the missing details, then upload again.
  • Important Notice about a seller account: a reminder that your eBay account must be registered as a seller. Press I understand, hide this message to hide it.
  • Important Notice about the eBay Overseas Warehouse Block Policy: you see it when the country of your account is one where eBay may block listings of goods stored in another country. If eBay blocks your listings, contact eBay Customer Support to ask for approval. Only eBay can lift this block.
  • Stock Update is enabled or Stock Update is disabled, and the pricing notice: they tell you how stock and prices are sent to eBay. Press Manage stock settings or Manage pricing settings to change them.

Changing the settings later

On the channel page press Manage Sales Channel. There you can change:

  • Store name.
  • Pricing Policy: ± % over live RRP, ± £ over live RRP (€ in the Europe and España shops), or Do not follow RRP if you set prices yourself on eBay. With Do not follow RRP we never upload or overwrite your eBay prices.
  • Upload as draft: new products are created on eBay unpublished, so you can check them before they go live.
  • Shipping, Returns and your stock settings: Stock Update, Max Quantity To Advertise and Stock Threshold.

See Managing products and orders on eBay for how prices and stock work.

Reconnecting

If eBay stops accepting our connection, for example after you remove our access on eBay, the channel shows as not connected and a Reconnect button appears. Press it and approve the connection on eBay again. When you see the message that your store was authenticated, close that page and open your channel again from Channels.

If you connect an eBay account that is already connected to one of your open channels with Add Sales Channel, we recognise it and keep using that channel with its products instead of creating a second one.

Deleting the channel

In Channels, press the Close channel button on the row of your eBay channel and confirm with Close. This closes the channel in your account only. Your listings stay live on eBay, but we stop updating their stock and prices, and new eBay orders no longer come to us. End the listings on eBay yourself if you stop selling them.

When something goes wrong

  • The Ebay card shows Maintenance instead of Connect: eBay connections are not available in your shop at the moment. Ask us in the chat on our website.
  • "You are not authenticated yet, please click auth store button": you pressed Next before approving on eBay, or the approval did not finish. Press Auth Store again and approve.
  • Unable to authenticate to eBay, or the wrong eBay account was connected: eBay authorises the account signed in in that browser. Sign out of eBay, sign in with the right account, and press Auth Store again. A private window or another browser also works.
  • The policy lists are empty or you see "Something went wrong": close the window, open the channel page and press Continue Registration. If it still fails, check in eBay that your account is a seller account.
  • "invalid data in the associated fulfilment policy" when you upload: the postage policy you chose has no valid postage service. Open your business policies in eBay, add at least one postage service to that policy, then upload again.
  • The channel shows as not connected: press Reconnect.
